Civilization VI on Android: Everything You Need to Know


There are six ways to win Civilization VI. You must either establish a colony on Mars (Science), attract more tourists than any other empire (Culture), conquer the original capital of every other civilization (Domination), spread your religion until it's the dominant belief in every empire (Religion), or simply have a better score than everyone else by the time the game is over. The Gathering Storm expansion adds one more victory method: Diplomacy, where you achieve a certain number of points through the World Congress.

In the Rise and Fall expansion, successful leadership of a civilization can send it into a prosperous Golden Age, but falling behind can usher in a Dark Age. Respond well to the challenges of a Dark Age, and your civilization can rise again into renewal with a Heroic Age.


Civilization VI, as the name might hint, requires the player to develop a civilization from an early settlement. Winning the game can be done by achieving one of the several victory criteria, such as military domination, technological superiority, or cultural influence. Players explore for resources, establish cities, build up improvements, deploy military, research new technologies, and engage in negotiation with other AI-based leaders. At least on other platforms, the game is praised for its depth and the ability to force players to strategize on their feet.


Like the march of civilization itself, Civilization 6 has gradually made its way to multiple platforms in the four years since its original PC launch, and now it can add one more platform to that list, because the game has just been released for Android devices, almost three years since it came to iOS devices.


So, you could start from 4,000 B.C. with your civilization, or play a game set in an endless war. You could set up a colony on a new world, or one overrun by barbarians. With so many options for a unique game available, you could be playing Civilization Revolution 2 on your phone for a long time to come.


Rise and Fall was the game's first expansion and it introduced a number of now-integral features, including improved timeline review, political loyalty, and an Ages mechanic built around cycles of Dark Ages and Golden Ages. Gathering Storm, the second expansion, added environmental hazards and climate change consequences, new engineering resources and mechanisms, and iconic scenarios like the Black Death. Both expansions also come with a boat-load of civilizations and new leaders to helm them.


First released in 2016 on PC, Civilization VI is still getting plenty of updates four years later. There have been two expansion packs - one focused on global eras called Rise and Fall and another centered around climate change called Gathering Storm. Following those releases, Firaxis unveiled the New Frontier Pass, a bi-monthly content drip that introduces updates like new civilizations, game modes, leaders, and buildings to the mix. The season pass is already in progress on console and PC platforms, and 2K says that it will arrive later this year on mobile platforms.

Civilization VI (Civ 6) is a turn-based strategy 4X video game. In the game, one or more players need to grow their individual civilization from a small tribe to control the entire planet across several periods of development and compete alongside computer-controlled AI opponents during the process.


The first-ever Civilization game released back in 1991? The game drew inspiration from various other games and genres. Some of them are SimCity, Risk, and the like. The game's premise was to challenge players to lead a civilization from 4000 BC all the way to the modern age. Players are in control of the entire journey and experience. Starting with how to go about building your city. Gathering resources for various construction and development needs. Research is also an important aspect of progress. Advance technologies and improve your military might as you reach the modern age. Every step and decision is up to you, the player. It's a unique and engaging experience to have to be in control of your success. If something does go astray, it's also because of your decision. You can back and start again or try to salvage the situation.


The Sid Meier's Civilization series of games is the definitive example of 4X games. 4X stands for "explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate". Civilization games are one of the standards in the strategy game genre. Games live civilization has come out across all platforms. While these games are great in their own way, there's something that is unique to Civilization. Regardless, strategies games nowadays cater to all types of players and preferences.


There are currently nineteen civilizations included in the base game. This includes the Aztec civilization, which was officially added ninety days after launch. The Nintendo Switch version contains these nineteen, as well as all civilizations from the initial four DLC packs.


Each civilization has three unique components: a unit, a piece of infrastructure (be it a building, a district or a tile improvement), and an ability. Furthermore, each leader has a distinct ability of their own, as well as a unique agenda which shapes his or her play style and diplomatic personality when controlled by the AI. Abilities can be multi-faceted, and some leader abilities include a further unique unit, or another piece of unique infrastructure, giving the civilization a total of two, or even a unique project.

Cities with an established Governor gain +5% Culture, +5% Production, and +10% combat experience towards all units trained in the city. These numbers are tripled in cities not founded by the Mapuche. All cities within 9 tiles of a city with your Governor gain +4 Loyalty per turn towards your civilization.


Sending a Trade Route immediately creates a Trading Post in the destination city, instead of when the Trade Route is completed. Gains an extra level of Diplomatic Visibility with civilizations that have a Mongolian Trading Post. +6 Combat Strength for all units for each level of Diplomatic Visibility Mongolia has over the other civilization, instead of the usual +3 Combat Strength.


Founded cities start with five additional tiles. Tundra tiles provide +1 Faith and +1 Production, in addition to their usual yields. Units are immune to damage from Blizzards. +100% damage from Blizzards inside Russian territory to civilizations at war with Russia.


As with previous Civilization games, wonders are mega-buildings that are unique in the world and provide potent bonuses to a civilization. All wonders are inspired by, and named after, famous real-world buildings or landmarks that have stood the test of time and changed the world forever. Wonders require time, energy, and effort to complete, but once constructed, they provide your civilization with many benefits. As with districts, they are built not within the City Center, but on tiles of their own. When built, all tile yields from that tile are removed and the wonder replaces anything else that was originally there.


Natural wonders are unique terrain features that may be found scattered throughout the world. All natural wonders cover between 1 and 4 tiles, and provide powerful bonuses which are of great strategic importance to nearby civilizations. Though players cannot build districts or improvements on wonder tiles, the bonuses they provide to their surroundings make them attractive locations for constructing cities.


There are six types of city-states in the game. To influence city-states, civilizations can send Envoys, and receive larger bonuses (based on city-state type) for higher numbers of Envoys. The civilization with the most influence over any single city-state becomes the Suzerain, as long as that civilization has three or more Envoys present. If two or more civilizations are tied for influence (same number of Envoys), there is no Suzerain. The Suzerain receives a bonus unique to the city-state in question. Suzerains may pay Gold to take control of their city-state's military units for 30 turns.


Envoys are representatives of your civilization that can be sent to city-states that you've met. By default, one Envoy is earned for every 100 influence points that you accumulate and it can be improved by policy cards. The bonuses you earn from a city-state depend on how many Envoys you have sent to the city-state. One bonus is earned for having 1 Envoy, the next bonus is at 3 Envoys, and the final bonus is at 6 Envoys. Declaring war directly on a city-state removes all Envoys you had there. Otherwise, Envoys stay at the city-state permanently.


All civilizations begin with the Chiefdom government upon researching Code of Laws; further government types are unlocked via the civics tree. Anarchy is not present when changing government types unless reverting to a government which has been previously chosen.


Pantheons are the first signs of spiritual development in a civilization, and a stepping stone towards a religion. Pantheons worship a number of minor gods, usually related to nature and natural phenomena, and provide minor bonuses, usually based on terrain. In a major departure from the previous game, a civilization's Pantheon will not get overwritten by foreign religions converting your cities.


There are five victory conditions in the base version of Civilization VI (six with expansions), corresponding to many of the major aspects of the game. You can win a Science Victory by focusing on scientific advancement and ultimately establishing a base on Mars. Cultural Victory returns from its debut in Civilization III and looks similar to the incarnation in Civilization V: Brave New World; it triggers when you attract more visiting tourists than any country has domestic tourists. Religious Victory is added to the victory conditions from Civilization V; it requires that the religion a player has adopted become the predominant religion (followed by > 50% of cities) in every civilization in the game. Score and Domination Victories return as well.
