How a child care and aged care service in Sydenham can benefit from working together

On the 17th of October, children from our child care centre Kids Kingdom Learning Child Care & Kindergarten Sydenham visited the local aged care facility Arcare Sydenham. More than just a fun day out, it was a mutually productive time for the children at our child care, as well as for the elder residents of Arcare Sydenham.

The benefits of child care and aged care facilities working closely together is only starting to be documented worldwide.

For children with no elder figures or grandparents living nearby, this provides an important opportunity for children to establish intergenerational relationships. New studies have shown that children improve in their language, emotional and social development when exposed to these kinds of environments. Finally, programs like these help our children to have a wider understanding of the people in the Sydenham community.

For Arcare Sydenham’s aged care residents, interacting with children from our child care help them to not feel socially isolated and undervalued.
